Update on PECO July 23 Storm Restoration 1000 Hours

Situation Overview

A thunderstorm producing heavy rain, lightning and strong winds, moved through the region yesterday evening causing damage to trees and outages throughout our service territory. The most severe weather affected Bucks and Delaware counties. PECO’s Emergency Response Organization is activated, with crews currently investigating the extent of damage and will be working throughout Tuesday. Estimated restoration times will be available as crews continue to assess damage and make repairs.

As of 8 a.m. on Tuesday, approximately 23,000 customers are without service.

What happened?

A thunderstorm that produced heavy rain, lightning and strong winds, moved through southeastern Pennsylvania, leaving downed trees and tree limbs, flooding conditions, and causing damage to utility poles and electric equipment.

Approximately 90,000 customers were impacted by the storm, with more than 74,000 customers without service at the height. As of 8 a.m. on Tuesday, around 23,000 PECO customers are currently without electric service.

What are we doing?

When storms and extreme weather hit, PECO is prepared and dedicated to safely restoring service to our customers as quickly as possible. PECO personnel work around the clock until every last customer is restored.

PECO’s Emergency Response Organization is activated, and all available personnel are responding to support our customers. PECO has secured local contractor crews to provide assistance in making repairs.

Estimated restoration times will be available as crews continue to assess damage and make repairs.

We know our customers are inconvenienced anytime they are without service and we appreciate their patience and understanding as we make repairs.

What do we want customers to know/do?

PECO urges customers to be safe during severe weather by staying away from downed power lines and potentially damaged electric equipment.

Customers should always assume that PECO equipment is energized. Report downed power lines by contacting us at 1-800-841-4141.

Customers experiencing any issues with their electric or natural gas service should contact PECO at 1-800-841-4141.

Customers also can easily report issues with their electric service at peco.com/outages using their phone, tablet or computer or through PECO’s free mobile app.

Download PECO’s free mobile app to report outages and receive notifications on restoration status. The PECO mobile app is available through the App Store or Google Play.

Visit peco.com/alerts to choose how to receive information – via text, email or phone – including when power is out in your area, when your service is expected to be restored, or when your power is restored.

PECO also has a two-way texting program for outages. By texting “ADDOUTAGE” to MYPECO (697326), customers can enroll in the program, report outages and check the status of their outage through text messaging. To use this service a customer’s mobile number must be registered with their account.

Resurfacing Projects to Impact Chester Pike and MacDade Boulevard Traffic Week of June 9

Daytime and nighttime lane restrictions are scheduled next week on U.S. 13 (Chester Pike/MacDade Boulevard) for resurfacing operations as part of an improvement project to repair and resurface 47 miles of state highway in Delaware County.

According to a press release from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, lane restrictions are scheduled on U.S. 13 (Chester Pike/MacDade Boulevard) between Stuart Avenue and Rundale Avenue in Folcroft, Sharon Hill, Collingdale, Darby, Yeadon, and Glenolden boroughs for milling and paving operations on Sunday, June 9, through Friday, June 14, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because slowdowns will occur. The contractor’s schedule is dependent on the weather.

PECO Equipment Upgrades – Rundale and Yeadon Avenues

PECO is updating their equipment now through June of 2019 in the area of Rundale Avenue (between Yeadon Avenue and MacDade Boulevard) and Yeadon Avenue (between Guenther Avenue and Parmley Avenue) from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. This work was expected to begin in the summer, but PECO had to move up the date. Utility Line Services (a PECO contractor) will perform the work. For your safety please abide by the posted signs.

This work will be performed by Utility Line Services, a qualified PECO contractor. If you have any questions regarding this project and for scheduling purposes, please contact Joe Favarulo at 610-636-0174.

Traffic Delays, Limited Parking Near Borough Hall

Due to construction work on the firehouse ramp, there will be limited parking at Borough Hall and excessive traffic in the area of Church Lane and Bailey Road. Motorists are advised to avoid the intersection if possible. This project is expected to be completed around November 8.

More than $400,000 in State Grants to Fund Sewer Project

Approximately 85 percent of an upcoming sewer project will be funded through state grants, as announced September 18 by State Rep. Joanna McClinton, D-Phila./Delaware. In all, more than $1.2 million in grants were been awarded for various projects throughout the 191st Legislative District, which covers portions of Delaware and Philadelphia counties.

The Yeadon portion of the grants consists of $424,641 for the replacement of sewer mains along West Providence Road and Yeadon Avenue. The total cost of the project is $499,578, according to a news release by Rep. McClinton.

The grants – approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority – also include $250,000 for a dock expansion at Bartram’s Garden public park, $200,000 to help renovate the McCreesh Recreation Center, and $358,011 for sewer line rehabilitation in Darby.

“Aging infrastructure can lead to major consequences, so it’s crucial to address these issues as quickly as possible,” McClinton said. “I am proud to support these efforts in any way that I can.”

Public Safety Announcement

Due to Wednesday’s impending storm, local public schools will be closed. Borough Hall will also be closed (for normal business as well as for all non-essential personnel).

Residents are advised if possible, to stay off the roads or to curtail travel in the interest of public safety. Snow Crews will be working throughout the storm to plow and salt streets, but an official emergency declaration will not be invoked – meaning cars may park on emergency streets, so long as they do not impede motor vehicle travel. Residents are advised that for emergencies, call 911.

Temporary Water Shutdown Friday, March 2

Aqua PA will temporarily have water shut down on Friday March 2 between 9 am and 3 pm in the following areas:

  • Yeadon Avenue between Cedar and Whitby
  • Cedar Avenue Between Church and Yeadon

All affected residents have been notified via door hanger.

Aqua Pennsylvania to Close Church Lane Weekdays for Water Main Installation

Aqua Pennsylvania is planning to close U.S. 13 (Church Lane) weekdays between Baltimore Avenue and MacDade Boulevard in Yeadon Borough, Delaware County, on Monday, January 22, through mid-May, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM for water main installation

During the weekday closure, U.S. 13 (Church Lane) motorists will be detoured over Baltimore Avenue, Lansdowne Avenue/Main Street and MacDade Boulevard.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area. The schedule is weather dependent.
