Snow and Ice

Extreme Winter Weather Conditions – An Update from Yeadon Public Works Department

In response to the recent snowstorm, the Yeadon Borough Public Works Department has been working tirelessly to ensure the safety and accessibility of our streets.

Over the course of the storm, five employees worked a combined total of 18 hours of overtime to clear snow and treat our roadways. We used over 49 tons of salt to help melt the snow and prevent ice buildup.

However, with the extreme temperatures we’ve experienced in the Northeast corridor, we are seeing an ongoing challenge. As the sun melts the snow during the day, the temperatures drop sharply at night, causing water to refreeze and creating icy conditions on the roads. This is a common issue in our region and is affecting not only Yeadon, but surrounding communities as well.

We want to assure you that we are continuing to monitor the situation closely. Our team remains ready to respond as necessary to keep our streets safe. Please drive cautiously and stay tuned for further updates.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Sincerely,

Public Works Department
Yeadon Borough

Mosquito SPraying

Mosquito Spraying in Yeadon Borough on Thursday, August 1

The Delaware County Health Department’s (DCHD) Mosquito-Borne Disease Control Program will conduct an Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) mosquito adulticide spray in sections of Upper Darby Township, Lansdowne Borough, Yeadon Borough and Darby Borough on 8/1/24. Residential and recreational areas within the treatment zone will be treated to control adult mosquitoes. This is a result of high trap counts and the identification of positive mosquito pools containing West Nile Virus in the area.

Treatment will take place during the evening of 8/1/24, starting at approximately 8:00 pm and concluding by 11:00 pm if weather and environmental conditions remain suitable for the operation. In the event of weather or other unexpected delays, a rain date is scheduled for 8/5/24.

In Yeadon Borough, the area to be sprayed is mainly concentrated around Holy Cross Cemetery, as shown in the map below and on page 2 of the press release.

Read more in the DCHD’s full release on this effort.
