Superintendent’s Report for May 2022
I would like to share with you Dr. Eric Becoats’ Superintendent’s Report presented at the Board Business Meeting held the evening of May 23, 2022. The agenda includes COVID Update, Special Thanks, Celebrating Success, Announcements, and Student Highlights, whereby one student from each school was highlighted for their notable accomplishments and good citizenship.
Summer Programs for WPSD Students
We are excited to be able to offer free Summer Enrichment opportunities for students from June 27-July 28, 2022. There are programs for students who will be entering grades K-6 in the fall, the Summer Bridge 7 program for rising 7th-grade students, and the Summer Bridge 9 program for rising 9th-grade students. All current 6th– and 8th-grade students are encouraged to attend the Bridge programs. The Extended School Year and Credit Recovery programs are for select students based on academic criteria. Meet the Principal at the Ninth Grade Academy
Current Penn Wood Middle School 8th-grade students and their families are invited to meet Principal Robert Curry at the Ninth Grade Academy on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at 6:30pm. The informational flyer is on slide 39 of the Superintendent’s Report and is also linked here. All WPSD rising 9th-grade students and their families are invited and encouraged to attend.
Black Lives Matter Mural Community Project
The WPSD and the Lansdowne Borough has entered an agreement for a Black Lives Matter Mural to be installed in the street of the 100 block of Green Avenue in Lansdowne in front of the Penn Wood High School – Green Avenue Campus. This is a community project and community members are invited to help with painting the mural from June 13-17, 2022. Volunteers are asked to sign up using our BLM Mural Volunteer Sign Up Form by Monday, June 6, 2022. Please see slide 40 of the Superintendent’s Report for more information or click here.

I want to remind you of our revised 2021-2022 school calendar that incorporates half-day Wednesdays on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month. Please note this schedule change for providing crossing guard support as well.

I-95, I-76, I-476 Among State Highways Restricted Next Week for Construction Activities in Philadelphia Region
King of Prussia PA – Interstate 95, Interstate 76, and Interstate 476 are among state highways restricted next week in Philadelphia, Bucks, Delaware, and Montgomery counties for construction activities, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
The work schedules and locations are:
Delaware County
• Monday, May 16, through Friday, May 20, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, intermittent lane closures are scheduled on Route 491 (Naamans Creek Road) between U.S. 202 (Wilmington-West Chester Pike) and the Delaware State line in Concord, Bethel, and Upper Chichester townships, for line striping and rumble strip installation; and
• Monday, May 16 through Friday, May 20, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM, lance closures are scheduled in both directions on I-476 between the Media/Swarthmore and the Interstate 276 interchanges in Nether Providence, Springfield, Marple, Haverford, Radnor, Lower Merion, Plymouth townships and West Conshohocken Borough in Delaware and Montgomery counties for guide rail installations.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because slowdowns may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
These construction activities are part of PennDOT’s program to ensure the safety and overall condition of our state highways.
Motorists can check conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com or downloading the 511PA mobile application. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.

Fair Funding Trial Closing Arguments – Thursday, March 10, at 9 am
Fair Funding Trial concluded and the date for closing arguments have been scheduled. Dr. Becoats will represent the William Penn Community in Harrisburg on Thursday, March 10th for closing arguments. Closing arguments begin at 9:00 a.m. and can be watched live on the Fund Our Schools PA website at https://www.fundourschoolspa.org/.
