Cleanup Day = Yeadon and Comcast Cares

Philadelphia and Comcast Cares join Yeadon for Clean-up Day – Saturday, April 21

Comcast Cares volunteers will be assisting Yeadon on Saturday,April 21st from 8 am to 12 pm to help clean up a major gateway that leads into the Borough (Church Lane at Allen Drive to 70th & Cobbs Creek Parkway).

Every year Comcast chooses an entity or municipality to help clean, plant trees and/or bring a needed facelift to communities by contributing to the environment and taking an active leadership role in being a responsible community partner.

Last year Comcast chose Yeadon and in a joint effort with dozens of volunteers and our Public Works Department cleaned up West Cobbs Creek Parkway from Chester Avenue to St. Louis Church. This year Comcast has chosen us again and will be assisting with cleaning our major gateway area. Philadelphia also will be collaborating and cleaning up their portion of 70th Street adjacent to ours at the same time.

We are in need of more volunteers so if you are interested in joining us then please contact Mr. Winston Reid at 610-931-3408. The staging area will be at Church Lane and Allen Drive where we will meet and register. Our Public Works Department will be on-site as well. Gloves, supplies and all needed materials will be provided. Portable lavatories will be on site. The area will be secured so that we can safely work. Please dress comfortably and fitting for this clean-up effort.

Thanks in advance for your interest in helping to keep Yeadon clean.

Public Safety Announcement

Due to Wednesday’s impending storm, local public schools will be closed. Borough Hall will also be closed (for normal business as well as for all non-essential personnel).

Residents are advised if possible, to stay off the roads or to curtail travel in the interest of public safety. Snow Crews will be working throughout the storm to plow and salt streets, but an official emergency declaration will not be invoked – meaning cars may park on emergency streets, so long as they do not impede motor vehicle travel. Residents are advised that for emergencies, call 911.
For power outages, call PECO at 1-800-841-4141
For Emergency Management concerns, call 484-843-6872
Also please check the website for continuing updates.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we pull together to safely make it through this latest storm.

Respectfully,
Mayor Hepkins

Junior Councilor Maaya El

Introducing Junior Councilor Maaya El

The Borough Council is happy to introduce our new Junior Councilor – Maaya El. Maaya is an 11th grader at Penn Wood High School and was nominated by her School Counselor and highly recommended by the school Principal. Maaya is described as a brilliant student with strong leadership skills. We look forward to working with Maaya and exploring all the ideas and suggestions she puts forth.

The Junior Council Person program provides youth in our community an opportunity to get engaged in borough government and develop leadership skills. It allows borough officials to serve as mentors to students who will be future leaders in our community. It also will provide Yeadon Council a perspective that is seldom seen in government – and that is the ideas and thoughts of our youth in our community. There is one more position open and available for any Yeadon high School student that may be interested. Please click here to apply.
