Doodle 4 Google Contest: Vote for Madelyn TODAY!!!

Madelyn Kieh, a Yeadonite and Penn Wood High School Freshman, is Pennsylvania’s State Finalist in the “DOODLE 4 GOOGLE” competition!

What is Doodle 4 Google??

The Google logo at www.google.com changes into something different each day. Google refers to them as “doodles.” Google holds an annual “Doodle 4 Google” contest where students may submit a doodle of a specific theme selected by the company. This year’s contest theme was “What inspires me?”

Madelyn Kieh submitted the winning doodle for the State of Pennsylvania. Madelyn’s doodle shows how her sister Marilyn, who is also her guardian, inspired her to develop her artistic talents as a young girl. Google selected winners from 53 states and territories.

Madelyn’s doodle was selected over hundreds of other submissions from Pennsylvania and now advances to the National level. Four National Finalists and one National Winner will be selected. All will have their doodles featured on the Doodle 4 Google gallery. National Finalists will receive a $5,000 college scholarship, trip to Google Headquarters in California, Google hardware, and “fun Googley swag.” The National Winner will receive a $30,000 college scholarship, $50,000 technology package for their school, in addition to the other prizes that also will be won by the Finalists.

A two-week voting period begins TODAY – Monday, May 7th and ends Friday – May 18th. Vote for Madelyn’s Doodle in the Grades 8-9 Category at https://doodles.google.com/d4g/vote.html so she can win a National prize. Her drawing/portrait is featured below.

Borough Cleanup

Yeadon Borough Clean Up – Major Success!

On Saturday, April 21, 2018 a much needed facelift was given to a main corridor that leads into Yeadon. Volunteers from both Yeadon and Philadelphia collaborated and cleaned up the area of Church Lane at Allen Drive to 70th and Cobbs Creek. This particular area has been an eyesore for a very long time so volunteers from both municipalities worked hand in hand in accomplishing this amazing goal. The area has been eradicated of tons of trash. A big thank you to ALL of the individuals who made it happen. This was not done by one person alone but by everyone collectively. The results speak volumes. Great job to all!

Cleanup Day = Yeadon and Comcast Cares

Philadelphia and Comcast Cares join Yeadon for Clean-up Day – Saturday, April 21

Comcast Cares volunteers will be assisting Yeadon on Saturday,April 21st from 8 am to 12 pm to help clean up a major gateway that leads into the Borough (Church Lane at Allen Drive to 70th & Cobbs Creek Parkway).

Every year Comcast chooses an entity or municipality to help clean, plant trees and/or bring a needed facelift to communities by contributing to the environment and taking an active leadership role in being a responsible community partner.

Last year Comcast chose Yeadon and in a joint effort with dozens of volunteers and our Public Works Department cleaned up West Cobbs Creek Parkway from Chester Avenue to St. Louis Church. This year Comcast has chosen us again and will be assisting with cleaning our major gateway area. Philadelphia also will be collaborating and cleaning up their portion of 70th Street adjacent to ours at the same time.

We are in need of more volunteers so if you are interested in joining us then please contact Mr. Winston Reid at 610-931-3408. The staging area will be at Church Lane and Allen Drive where we will meet and register. Our Public Works Department will be on-site as well. Gloves, supplies and all needed materials will be provided. Portable lavatories will be on site. The area will be secured so that we can safely work. Please dress comfortably and fitting for this clean-up effort.

Thanks in advance for your interest in helping to keep Yeadon clean.
