Delaware County Launches Program to Vaccinate Homebound Residents

Delaware County Council and the Delaware County COVID-19 Task Force have partnered with community organizations across Delaware County to launch the Homebound COVID-19 Vaccination Program. This new program, part of the Delaware County Pandemic Plan, will help ensure that any homebound individual who cannot safely leave their residence is able to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

The COVID-19 Task Force expects the program will vaccinate up to 500 homebound residents per week, based on the anticipated supply of vaccine provided from the State. A direct caregiver can also qualify to receive a vaccination. Language assistance is available.

The critical work of identifying homebound individuals by county agencies—including the Department of Human Services, the County Office of Services for the Aging (COSA), the Office of Behavioral Health and the Office of Intellectual Disabilities—and by our community partners is an ongoing process. The Task Force welcomes additional input from local organizations to help identify individuals for the program.

Individuals can call the Delaware County COVID-19 Call Center at (484) 276-2100, or by email covid19resources.co.delaware.pa.us, to add themselves or a homebound loved one, friend or neighbor to the “Homebound Roster” for an on-site at-home vaccination. Information needed includes the name of the person to be vaccinated, a phone number, zip code, and an email if applicable.

Delaware County Vaccination Update – March 12

Read this press release in its entirety at delcopa.gov

Delaware County Council continues to advocate for more COVID-19 vaccines for Delaware County residents.

On March 7, County Council members and Commissioners, and state legislators representing Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery Counties met virtually with Pennsylvania Acting Secretary of Health Alison Beam and other Wolf Administration officials regarding the state’s allocation of COVID-19 vaccine to these four Southeastern Pennsylvania counties.

On March 8, elected officials from the four-county region sent a letter to Acting Secretary Beam requesting the following actions be taken as quickly as possible:

1. Create a publicly available chart showing the amount of vaccine from all sources, including Federal partnerships, that has been delivered to each county each month and a description of the “County Index” that the Pennsylvania Department of Health is currently using to allocate doses to each county.

2. Explain how and when counties that are lagging in vaccine delivery will receive additional vaccines.

3. Explain how vaccine providers will be monitored going forward to ensure that no vaccine provider moves on to vaccinate 1B individuals (aside from the teachers and educational support personnel who are directly receiving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine) until all counties in the Commonwealth have received sufficient supply to vaccinate their 1A population.

Southeast Pennsylvania Counties Issue Statement on COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution

County commissioners, county council members and state legislators representing Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery Counties met for an hour Sunday, March 7 with Pennsylvania Acting Secretary of Health Alison Beam and other Wolf Administration officials regarding the state’s allocation of COVID-19 vaccine to the four Southeast Pennsylvania counties.

The meeting, long sought by elected officials, was arranged after The Philadelphia Inquirer reported on Feb. 27 that our four suburban counties have received far lower state allocations of vaccine than their substantial populations merit.

All four counties consistently have received from the Pennsylvania Department of Health far smaller amounts of vaccine than requested, while less-populated counties elsewhere in the state have received disproportionately large amounts of Pfizer and Moderna vaccine.

Smaller-than-expected allocations in our area have led to long waiting lists and cancellation of second-dose appointments that had been scheduled for weeks, creating understandable frustration and anger among our constituents. Sunday’s discussion, conducted via Zoom, came after repeated requests from county officials and state legislators for a meeting to explain and remedy these evident inequalities.

COVID-19 Vaccination Update from Delaware County

The County opens two additional vaccine sites, including a Chester site and a Pfizer clinic in Radnor<>/h2>

Delaware County Government has opened two additional COVID-19 vaccination sites in Chester and in Radnor.

The County, in partnership with Keystone First, and in collaboration with the City of Chester opened the Keystone First Wellness Center in Chester on Feb. 25. With a focus on public health needs for residents in the Chester community, the site, operated by Keystone First began administering Moderna vaccinations on Feb. 25 and will be offering resources for improving overall health and well-being for members of the community at the center in the near future.

The County, in partnership with Penn Medicine will begin administering the Pfizer vaccine on Feb. 26 at Penn Medicine Radnor. People who have already pre-registered for a vaccine through Delaware County Government are eligible to receive a Pfizer vaccine at the new Radnor vaccination site.

The two new locations bring the total number of Delaware County Government vaccination sites to four. The County has resumed vaccinations at its Yeadon Wellness Center and the Aston Community Center. Last week, shipping delays from Moderna and severe weather, impacted the transportation of the vaccine, resulting in a lack of doses to all vaccine providers in the state. As a result, Delaware County Government canceled all vaccine appointments last week.
