William Penn School District Free Grab-n-Go Meals – New Dates and Locations

beginning Monday, November 2nd, the pick-up times and locations for families to pick up the Grab-and-Go Breakfast and Lunch will be changed.

The hours for pick up will be 11:00am to 1:00pm. The pick-up days will remain the same (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays). Instead of picking up meals for one day on Fridays, three days’ meals will be available on Fridays, allowing for students to have meals on Saturdays and Sundays as well.

There is a pick up location in each WPSD borough, including W.B. Evans Elementary School in Yeadon. Some previous locations will no longer be available based on the numbers of families picking up and the proximity to other pick up locations.

All families may pick up at any available location close to them.

William Penn School District Update: Transition to Hybrid for Special Education

The Superintendent recommends the following action item in order to transition from virtual instruction to hybrid, effective November 16, 2020.

a. Students with low incidence disabilities return to school on an AA/BB model beginning Monday, November 16, 2020.
b. All other students’ in-person return will continue to be reviewed based upon Chester County Health Department’s COVID-19 data, readiness of classrooms with technology to support the hybrid model, and teacher availability.
c. Athletic participation will be reassessed and a determination made to resume beginning in November 2020.

There are approximately 130 students with low incidence disabilities who will be returning to school in person. The students attend Aldan, Ardmore Avenue, and Evans Elementary Schools, Penn Wood Middle School, and Penn Wood High School. These families have already been notified and able to meet with District staff.

Wednesday Word with Dr. Eric J. Becoats: Every Wednesday, Dr. Becoats records a short message for families with information and reminders for the week. The Wednesday Word can be accessed on our District website, Facebook page, Instagram page, and YouTube account.

District Website: As a general resource, the District website is a place to find many items constituents may be looking for, such as Board Meeting notices, agendas, minutes, and recordings, information about the Homestead/Farmstead Exclusion Program, Community Resource Guide and more.

Race: Better Together

Empowerment Experience for Students to Discuss Race Relations and Social Injustice

William Penn School District students in grades 7-12 will have the opportunity to participate in an Empowerment Experience virtual program to address feelings around race relations and social injustice and how students are impacted.

The Empowerment Experience, entitled “Forward Focused: Better Together,” consists of three 90-minute interactive virtual experiences offering a safe space and opportunity for students to honestly process and express their feeling and to be provided with the tools to allow for reconciliation and to become positive change agents in the community.

There is no cost to William Penn School District students, but registration is required and students must commit to attending all three sessions. The first series of sessions are scheduled for September 9, September 16, and September 23. The sessions will be provided by The Potts Group, LLC. Interested students may go to the district website to register or contact their guidance counselor.

Our country is at a crossroads as it relates to race and equality. It is imperative that we do not ignore that our students are being impacted and need a safe space and opportunity to achieve the following objectives:
• Honestly process and express their feelings.
• Get equipped with tools for reconciliation.
• Ignite the mental muscle to be positive change agents in the community.

Calling the Class of 2021: Penn Wood Seniors Chat with Superintendent Tuesday, August 25

Superintendent Eric J. Becoats invites Penn Wood Seniors to an online Let’s Chat session

Dr. Becoats wants to speak to the Class of 2021 to discuss their vision for their senior year and how he can help them reach that vision.

The first session is Tuesday, August 25th from 1-3 pm on Zoom.

Every PWHS senior should check their WilliamPennSD.net (Gmail account) with the information.

The Zoom link to join the meeting will also be sent to that same email.

William Penn School District Resources on Reopening Schools

On July 20, the William Penn School District’s Board Meeting of the Committee of the Whole featured a presentation by Superintendent Dr. Eric Becoats on plans for reopening schools in September 2020.

Dr. Becoats’ presentations, recordings of Community Forums, as well as information and guidance from the Chester County Health Department, CDC, PA Health Department, American Association of Pediatrics, and other experts are all available the district website’s Reopening Schools 2020 page. There is also a list of Frequently Asked Questions and local day care centers that may be able to provide support to families.

Superintendent of Schools to Host Virtual Community Forums July 6 and July 7

Dr. Eric Becoats will be hosting Superintendent Talks to share information with parents, students, staff, and community. A virtual community forum, Reopening Schools 2020, will be held next week.

Interested persons can attend one of two community forums: July 6 or July 7 at 6:30 pm.

Submit your questions in advance to SchoolReopening@wpsd.k12.pa.us by July 5.
